Closely related to the brownie, yet more moist and gooey, the Swedish ‘kladdkaka’ is easily made using only a few ingredients. It’s the default cake made if in a hurry and having an urge for something sweet with your coffee. The KAFFEREP gooey cocoa and chocolate cake is even simpler to prepare. Defrost for 30 minutes, then serve. Either as it is or with strawberries and whipped cream or ice cream.
From kafferep to fika – the Swedish tradition of gathering at home to socialise, drink coffee and eat cookies has a long history. The custom came about during the 19th century and meant that the host was expected to serve exactly seven types of cookies to their guests. Fewer were considered stingy and more was seen as over the top, while seven was the perfect balance.
