Healthy and Sustainable Living
Water-saving Facilities
With deep roots in Kaohsiung for many years, we continuously adopt new equipment and make efforts each year to save water. As a result, we have been honored with the Excellent Award for the implementation of water-saving guidance and improvements by the Ministry of Economic Affairs.
✔️ Replacing water-saving toilets/faucets: Saves up to 50% of water consumption.
✔️ Office renovation with waterless urinals: Saves 1.2 million bottles of 600cc water each year.
✔️ Replacing restaurant dishwashers: Reduced water consumption from 833 liters per hour to 280 liters.
Reconstruction of the Student Cafeteria at Chang Jung University
To fulfill the commitment to a clean, zero-waste, sustainable green lifestyle, Chang Jung Christian University has partnered with IKEA to create a comfortable and bright dining environment. The concept of "people-oriented" and "environmental sustainability" is integrated into the campus dining culture, and the student dining area has undergone a comprehensive renovation.
Circular Economy and Becoming Climate Positive
Energy-saving Hardware
We are committed to replacing outdated equipment every year, and in 2023, we upgraded to a variable frequency magnetic levitation chilled water system, which can save 180,000 kWh of electricity annually. In total, all the equipment combined saves approximately 1.46 million kWh, which can supply electricity to about 346 households.
✔️ Replacement of restaurant dishwashers: Reduced electricity consumption from 90 kWh to 57.7 kWh.
✔️ Replacement of energy-consuming air conditioning/Installation of 2,000 solar panels: Estimated annual electricity generation of 900,000 kWh, which can supply electricity to approximately 220 households.
✔️ Replacement of cooling towers: Annual electricity savings of approximately 90,000 kWh, which can supply electricity to about 22 households.
People-Oriented Approach
For several consecutive years, IKEA Kaohsiung Store has collaborated with local rural women's sewing organization, "Da Ai Sewing," to transform discontinued sofa fabrics into pencil cases, zipper bags, drink pouches, tote bags, pillowcases, and more, giving them a second life and helping empower women in rural areas. In cooperation with REBIRTH, large-scale communication banners are repurposed into versatile tote bags, which are given as exclusive gifts to employees for reuse.
Promoting Technical Education in Rural Areas
In collaboration with the TSMC Charity Foundation, which has long been committed to rural education, we jointly promote corporate technical and vocational training programs. In the initial trial phase, with the support of our logistics partner, PSC Group, students from the National Jia-Dong Senior Agricultural Vocational School are invited to enter and receive training and internships, assisting them in acquiring professional skills and providing opportunities for impoverished students to escape poverty.
